West Norfolk Carers (WNC) has announced it will close at the end of the month due to financial difficulties.
The move will lead to the redundancy of its 10 staff and the loss of 20 volunteer posts.
In a statement the charity details how last year it “faced a similar crisis”, after losing its funding from Norfolk County Council, but had won a reprieve after securing a contract with King’s Lynn based Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
“This partnership enabled us to continue operations, and we were grateful to QEH for recognising the essential role WNC played in supporting patients and their family carers, particularly in facilitating hospital discharge and preventing readmissions,” said the charity’s trustees in a statement.

The charity is now “reaching out to other agencies” ahead of its closure “in an attempt to mitigate the impact this will have on our service users”.
The charity’s statement also thanked the “professionalism, dedication and resilience” of its chief executive Jane Evans, staff and volunteers.
According to the charity register its total income for 31 March 2024 of £207,064 came from contracts, which was just below its spending of £212,809. This was the third year in a row in which its expenditure outstripped its income.
